On Creativity

Oct 4, 2023

Today, on the podcast we are in conversation with Holly Bobisuthi, an incredible artist whose process of alchemy with metal and her hands is otherworldly and magical. Her exploration of human, body, and hand are seen in her exquisite wearable art pieces that are both interactive and beautiful. Her practice of incorporating ritual, history, and self-image in her craft is of the utmost clarity, and I am beyond excited to share this in conversation. Holly and I have been friends for quite some time now and this was such a delightful conversation.

This interview was held at Holly's community studio and about mid-way, her studiomates were having conversation, so you will hear this in the background. Looking forward to sharing this interview, conducted in the awakening of summer, with you.

More about Holly:

Holly is an Oakland, California based artist, raised in a forest town in the Santa Cruz mountains who creates beautiful work from metal, and now in a newely explored medium wood. I learned, wood is a reductive form and a nonhomogenous art, and her carvings are both unique and striking.

Gentle reminder: We are in a casual conversation here and I am speaking from a very relaxed place and not thinking about how others will interpret my personal opinions or what I say. Sometimes when I listen back I realize "wow, I could have articulated that differently" however, I do not feel the need to speak in trepidation of how the world will digest my own words, opinions, or things I have said. With this, if the podcast resonates, please share, subscribe, and consider subscribing to my public journal on Substack or supporting via Buy me a Coffee
